Cabrits headland and Prince Rupert Bay, Portsmouth, Dominica

The most accessible Caribbean programme for a single applicant.

Dominica’s programme, run by the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CBIU) since 1993, is the most accessible of the Caribbean options for a single applicant and one of the most straightforward for families. There is no residency requirement, and every applicant aged 16 or over attends a short interview, usually online.

Investment options

  • Economic Diversification Fund (EDF): US$200,000 for a single applicant; US$250,000 for a main applicant with up to three dependants; US$25,000 for each additional dependant under 18 and US$40,000 for each additional dependant aged 18 or over.
  • Approved real estate: from US$200,000 in a government-approved project, plus government fees of US$75,000 (single applicant) or US$100,000 (family of up to four). The property must be held for at least three years (five if resold to another citizenship applicant).

Processing fee US$1,000; due diligence US$7,500 for the main applicant and US$4,000 for each dependant aged 16 or over; interview fee US$1,000 per person aged 16 or over; certificate of naturalisation US$500 per person.

Who can apply

Applicants must be at least 18, of good character, with no criminal record and a lawful source of funds. Dependants can include a spouse, children and dependent parents or grandparents. The CBIU applies restrictions or enhanced due diligence to nationals of Belarus, Iran, Northern Iraq, North Korea, Russia, Yemen and Sudan; we advise on eligibility before any fees are paid.

Process and timeline

Applications are lodged through an authorised agent and reviewed by the CBIU and independent due-diligence firms. The CBIU states that applicants should expect to wait at least three months for approval in principle; the investment is completed after approval, followed by the certificate of naturalisation and passport.

Points to know before you commit

  • No visit, residency or language requirement.
  • Dominican citizens have required a visa for the United Kingdom since July 2023; we review current travel arrangements with you rather than quoting a fixed visa-free count.
  • The real-estate route carries government fees on top of the property price — compare the total cost, not the headline figure.
